Welcome to the learning outside the classroom page. We are delighted to have been awarded ‘Bronze’ status for our Learning Outside the Classroom Award. We are very proud and now we will start working to achieve Gold!
Learning outside the classroom (LOtC) is very important to us at Great Kimble. We believe that LOtC allows children to develop self-esteem, confidence, independence and a greater awareness of the wider world around them.
The children are offered termly opportunities to learn outside the classroom through school trips and visits to places of interest locally.
We are very fortunate that our school setting is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) that lends itself perfectly to exploring the natural environment.
The pupils at Great Kimble are lucky to have an outdoor classroom at ‘Smokey Row’; a 15-minute walk from the school, that they visit weekly. Here they learn Science, Maths, English, Geography and Art as well as developing their respect for and understanding of the natural environment.
As you can see from some of the photographs below, we learn outside in all weathers! This gives us lots of opportunities to explore seasonal change and observe weather patterns, build resilience and ‘Live, Love, Learn’.
