There are a number of policies and statements that all schools now have to have on their website to comply with legislation. As a very small school we do our utmost to ensure that we have published all statutory information, and much more beside, to give you all the greatest opportunity to be fully involved with Great Kimble. If there is some information which you feel would be helpful but we haven’t made it available, please contact the school office. Thank you.
Lunch-time at Great Kimble
Since May 2016 we have been using Springwood for lunches. Half the school have their lunch at midday, whilst the others have playtime, and then there is a switch over at 12.30pm. Obviously those pupils who have not completed their lunch by 12.30 on the first sitting are given extra time. The current position is that all our pupils receive universal free school meals: this is a sandwich, yoghurt, fruit, cheese on a daily basis plus an additional ‘treat’ on a Friday. The school is currently investigating bringing in hot lunches: the first available opportunity for this will be October half term 2016.
Leave of absence
Great Kimble School is committed to giving pupils the best start to their school life. Promoting regular attendance is part of this commitment. With good attendance pupils will have the opportunities they need to develop friendships, feel secure in school routines and gain maximum benefit from the educational experiences on offer.Under the 1996 Education Act, parents and carers are responsible for ensuring their children attend school regularly and punctually. Failure to do so could result in legal action being taken against them by the Local Authority. The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2013 have removed all references to family holidays and leave of absence shall not be granted unless an application had been made in advance and the headteacher considers that leave of absence should be granted due to exceptional circumstances. Headteachers no longer have the discretion to authorise up to ten days of absence. This discretion has been removed by the aforementioned Regulations (2013). Whilst the headteacher will consider all requests on a case-by-case basis, parents must be aware that requests will normally be refused. At Great Kimble CofE School most holiday requests will not be authorised. We ask that families avoid booking holidays during term time. Missing the first few days of a new term can be particularly unsettling for a child. We would therefore urge parents to check school dates carefully before booking holidays.
